The connection between a canine and a human is considered truly special, as demonstrated by “Xerxes,” a police dog, this past Monday. During the funeral for his buddy and trainer Jorge Aeza, Xerxes chose to approach the coffin and bid him an emotional farewell that surprised and deeply touched many.

When Xerxes joined the Carabineros Canine Training Unit in Santiago de Chile back in 2013, Aeza and Xerxes became inseparable. Sadly, their paths diverged when Aeza passed away in a tragic car accident on December 16th while on his way to visit his grandparents. Without hesitation, Xerxes was brought to Aeza’s funeral by his colleagues.

A relative of the deceased police officer remarked:
“The farewell for my nephew was incredibly moving, especially when his coworkers brought the training puppies he had at the facility.”

“I believe it’s important to share this photo. Today, we said goodbye to the remains of a colleague, a canine teacher, and his devoted pet from Santiago came to bid him farewell,” added the author.
